Refurbishing Sony Reel to Reels

This guide is designed to take you carefully, step by step, through refurbishing your older Sony reel to reel with the mechanical mechanism. Along with detailed instructions, pictures of the actual mechanism will be used to assist you. Some of the models this guide covers are: TC-105, TC-230, TC-250, TC-280, TC-350, TC-352, TC-353, and TC-355. Other Sony model reel to reel decks can also be refurbished using this guide. Rubber Cleaner/ Reconditioner

This is a 1 oz. bottle of the absolute best rubber cleaner/ reconditioner available on the market anywhere. This the only solution I use or have used in over 20 years. It will clean pinch rollers, idlers, and belts. It will bring back that original softness to rubber surfaces that is required for pinch rollers and idlers to grip properly. Capstan Restorer

Slick and worn capstan shafts are the main failure with 8-track decks. When you can't get the tape to play without holding it or wedging the little piece of paper beside or above it, this Capstan Restorer will make it play like new. It uses a chemical process to ever so slightly etch the capstan shaft, removing the worn shiny look. Just enough to ensure that the capstan will grip the tape properly. Any manual method of scoring the capstans that has been tried for decades by unknowing technicians does nothing but damage the capstan shaft. This stuff is a real miracle cure for your 8-track woes. The Restorer can also be used on Reel to Reel capstan shafts. If the section where the capstan meets the tape is shiny, you will not be getting proper tension on the tape. Specially developed for the lubrication of small geared mechanisms such as turntables, tape decks, and any mechanical linkage or bearings. This is a 2oz tube of light bodied grease made of polymerized oil.

Cleaning Swabs

This a pack of 50 double ended wooden handled cotton cleaning swabs. You will find these work much better than the short bathroom type swabs you have at home. The cotton ends are much more secure and will not come off inside the units you are cleaning. The longer handles make reaching inside to do the cleaning much easier.

Teac / Sony Reel to Reel Power Cord

These are brand new custom molded power cords that fit many of the vintage Teac and Sony reel to reel decks. The female end is a rectangular shape with slots for the two prongs on the socket of these units. The cords are 6 ft. long..

Tape Head Demagnetizer

The tape head demagnetizers are brand new stock items. These are a necessity for maintaining your cassette and reel to reel units. A magnetized head greatly reduces the sound quality of your recordings.

Micro Switch (SPDT)

This micro switch is used in many cassette decks, especially Pioneer decks, for tape run switches, tape sensors, record tab sensors, and other applications around the tape bay. They are also used in many reel to reel decks as sensor switches in the tension arm assys. Please email if you have any questions about your particular unit.

Zippy Micro Switch (SPDT)

This power switch in used extensively in reel to reel decks as motor run switches and other sensing switches in conjunction with soleniond linkages. Please email if you have any questions about your particular unit.

Motor Run Capacitors

Brand new motor run capacitors. We have two values in stock at this time. 2uf @ 250VAC and 1.5uf @ 250VAC. These two values will cover most of the needs in the vintage reel to reel units. Bad motor run capacitors are a major cause of drive problems in the reel to reels. Before you cast the unit aside thinking it needs a motor, try replacing the motor run capacitors. Pioneer RT-909 Reel to Reel Flywheel Bearings

This a pair (2) of replacement bearings for the RT-909 (and RT-901) flywheels. It is not uncommon for these to become lost when changing a belt. With a missing bearing the unit will skew the tape across the heads and the flywheels may grind against the motor pulley.

Teac Reel to Reel Pinch Roller

These are OEM pinch rollers for Teac Reel to Reel decks. The pinch rollers fit a variety of Teac reel to reels including most of the A-23XX to A-25XX series units. They also fit the X----- Series units. If you are not sure please email first to verify they will fit your unit. They are brand new stock. Price is for one roller.

Teac NAB Hub Adapter

These are brand new Teac NAB adapters for the large 10-1/2" reels. They will fit all of the Teac and Tascam units (they will fit the Pioneer RT-909 also) as well as most other brands of reel to reels. The price you see is per adapter. You can specify the quantity you need when ordering. These are for 1/4" tapes.
